Providing comfort and joy to families who have a baby born with Down syndrome in the Calgary, Lethbridge, Red Deer and Edmonton areas. We aim to raise awareness and provide families with the necessary resources on Down syndrome prenatally through to the first years of life.
After hearing too many heart wrenching stories about families being encouraged to terminate or told “I’m sorry” after receiving a Down syndrome diagnosis, I knew it was time to start Adele’s Baskets. Although Adele’s diagnosis caught us by surprise, we are grateful for all that she has brought to our lives and to those around her.
Our mission is to provide families with comfort, reassurance and most importantly, that each family hears the word “CONGRATULATIONS!” Every life has value. Every baby should be welcomed into the world with excitement and love.
To date, our team has delivered hundreds of welcome baskets to very deserving families. The baskets are filled with beautiful gifts as well as a photo shoot and a list of resources to get the family started on their journey. We sit with families in their hospital rooms. We cry. We laugh. We understand. We get it. It’s an unexpected journey, but it’s one that is filled with love, light and joy.
Partnership with The PREP Society
Adele’s Baskets has joined the PREP family. Founder Krista Rowland-Collins and her volunteer team deliver gift baskets to new families in the hospital to congratulate them on the birth of their child. All items in the baskets are 100% donated. This service is a wonderful match with PREP’s mission to provide exceptional family centered services that empower parents to advocate for their child’s full citizenship in the community. ~ Barbara Tien
