COMMUNITY CONNECTION

Wyatt’s Journey: From Western Entrepreneur to MRU Student

In the vibrant city of Calgary, Wyatt (@wyatt_in_the_world), a spirited young entrepreneur with Down syndrome, embarked on a remarkable journey that transcended expectations and redefined the narrative surrounding individuals with diverse abilities. His story, initially highlighted by Global News, began with a pop-up Western shop that not only showcased his love for cowboy culture but also became a symbol of inclusivity and possibility.

Wyatt’s entrepreneurial venture garnered national attention, illustrating the positive impact of fostering inclusivity in business. His dedication and passion for Western wear spoke volumes, echoing The PREP Society’s core values of empowerment and community integration.

As his pop-up shop gained acclaim, Wyatt’s story took an unexpected yet heartwarming turn. Recognizing the potential impact on the community, Wyatt decided to pass the torch to Stampede Sam (@stampede.sam), another aspiring entrepreneur with Down syndrome. This handover not only marked a transition in the business but also symbolized a supportive community where individuals can uplift each other and share in the journey of achievement.

Fast forward to the present, and Wyatt’s trailblazing spirit continues to shine. Not only is he navigating the academic landscape at Mount Royal University (MRU), but he’s also showcasing his athletic prowess on an MRU basketball team. His dual commitment to academics and sports underscores the boundless potential within individuals when provided with the right support and opportunities.

Wyatt’s journey embodies the mission of The PREP Society—to cultivate an environment where individuals with Down syndrome can thrive and contribute meaningfully. His story encourages us all to challenge stereotypes, embrace diversity, and create a world where every dream is attainable.

As we celebrate Wyatt’s achievements, we are reminded that each step forward contributes to a more inclusive and compassionate society. Wyatt’s story is not just a tale of personal triumph; it’s an invitation for us all to envision a world where every individual, regardless of ability, has the opportunity to lead a fulfilling life.

Over the years, they witnessed firsthand the profound impact our initiatives had on Megan’s development, fostering her independence, confidence, and social skills.

A Legacy of Giving Back

The Woods have become synonymous with philanthropy and unwavering support. Their generous donations have paved the way for new programs and made possible the purchase of the Woodridge PREP building that has enriched the lives of countless children and young adults within our community. Their involvement isn’t limited to financial support; they actively engage in our events, sharing their experiences and encouraging others to join our cause.

The Wood family’s dedication has inspired our community to reach for the stars, to dream big, and to believe in the potential of every individual. Their story is a testament to the incredible impact one family can have on an entire organization, sparking hope and nurturing the dreams of others.

DONOR SPOTLIGHT

This summer, Aiden turned his lawn-mowing skills into a force for good through “Aiden’s Lawnmower Service,” and now, we’re celebrating his heartwarming donation of $215.

What makes this act even more extraordinary? Aiden’s older brother, Everett, has Down syndrome, and Aiden’s selfless gesture was fueled by his deep love for his sibling. He wanted to ensure that all kids with Down syndrome receive the support they deserve.

Aiden, you’re an inspiration to us all, proving that small hands can make a big difference! Your kindness reminds us that our community is a place where love and compassion thrive.

We’re absolutely thrilled to express our heartfelt thanks to one of our local No Frills locations, which happens to be owned by Kevin, one of our very own PREP members. Because of your support we will be able to continue ensuring individuals with Down syndrome are active and included members of their communities. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!
