We are family
You and me together
I believe I belong
Just watch me
I do too belong

“Marlena was determined to be an advocate from an early age, given that she told her parents at the ripe old age of 8 that she was going to be a senator so she could decide what bills deserved to become law. She currently acts as national legal counsel to the ~750 lawyers of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, where she sometimes spends more hours than she’d like to admit consulting on business risk mitigation, liability, professional conduct, conflicts and ethics. She also has a passion for child advocacy, having two children with exceptionalities. Serving previously on the boards of two non-profits at very different life stages, this born and bred Winnipegger knows that when matters need handling, there is nothing that a shot of espresso, a pair of great shoes and collaborative hard work can’t fix. Marlena believes in giving back, paying forward, and erring on the side of taking practical action.”
My daughter, Ashlyn, has been involved with PREP since she was nine months old, in their early learning program. From there she moved onto preschool and currently attends biweekly for speech and reading. PREP has played a significant role in Ashlyn’s development and her inclusion in her Grade five class at St. Michael’s school. PREP has been an invaluable resource to me over the years, both in terms of supporting Ashlyn through various classes and therapies as well as helping me advocate on her behalf. As well the friendships both she and I have made through PREP have been irreplaceable. I am excited to help support PREP as it moves forward through these transitions years and beyond. Personally, I am married to Brett, whom I met in 2016. Before that I was a single mother to Ashlyn for six years. Professionally, I have been a lawyer for 18 years with the law firm of Parlee McLaws LLP. I specialize in insurance defence claims and oil and gas litigation.
Jacqueline joined PREP 9 years ago shortly after her son was born with Down syndrome. They received amazing support and community at PREP and have been dedicated members ever since. “In that time, Nolan was setup for success in his neighbourhood school and I developed a stronger voice for my son’s inclusion and acceptance in the community. I feel that PREP is gearing up to offer even greater services for our members and being on the board at this time is an exciting and valuable opportunity. I look forward to learning a great deal and bringing a can do attitude to the table.” Jacqueline currently balances her time between being a mom to her two wonderful sons and Personal Organizer and vacation Property Manager. When she finds some free time, her passion is hiking, yoga and a good read.
